Health
Yellow Fever and Malaria precautions are required and you will need
to present the Yellow Fever card on arrival in Sao Tome. Vaccinations
again Cholera, Typhoid Fever and Polio are also recommended but please
consult your Doctor before travel. Mosquito Repellent is strongly
advised. Water must be boiled before drinking or brushing your teeth.
Language
The official language is Portuguese but there are about 4 versions
of Creole spoken. French is widely spoken but little English is
spoken.
Currency & Money
The currency is the Saotomese Dobra. Some of the bigger hotels will
accept Euros but for taxis, shops etc you will need the local currency.
The Dobra cannot be obtained outside of Sao Tome. Travellers cheques
can be cashed in the banks against a few. It is recommended to take
them in US dollars or Euros. Cheques are accepted from some European
banks, namely the big Portuguese banks.
Entry Visas
Visas are required by all non nationals and the passport must be
valid for the duration of the stay. Visas are valid for 1 month
after arrival.
Travellers must pay 50 euros on arrival with an entry letter and
on departure 18 euros, this may be subject to change.
